The Path Less Taken: Being A Recruitpreneur
To be honest, it’s very hard to be a recruitpreneur.
I lost count of the number of people who have approached me with a lot of zest about starting their own agency.
As I detailed out the steps, the hurdles stack up.
I can see passion ebbing away.
To put it simply, if you want to be a recruitpreneur aka the solopreneur who runs your own agency, you need to have IRON in you.
Innovative - People said don’t re-invent the wheels. This is true when it is working in your favor but in your mind, always stay alert and ready to innovate. You didn’t see ChatGPT coming, did you?
Raring - The audacity to imagine and expect more. Why else would you start a business if the returns are not massively better than working as an employee? You must be raring to charge forward and that takes a lot from the inside of you.
Outstanding - People who start business are good at what they do. In a way, they have mastered their craft and are no longer content building the dream for their employers. Before you start your own, learn and strive to be outstanding in your work. That’s your initial capital.
Nascent - Almost every entrepreneur makes the mistake of resting on their laurels. Adopt the mindset of being nascent, of coming into being, of being reborn. This keeps you sharp and nimble for necessary pivoting. Otherwise, you find yourself fronting legacy clients that will eventually take you down.
By now, you know the 4 ingredients to be a successful recruitpreneur.
You are nuts if you think these are all that’s necessary. Even though these are true, I made them up so that I can form the word IRON.
Which is my real point here. You seriously must have the IRON in you in order to stand a chance to succeed.
A recruitment business will 3-5X your income in a year but what you are not expecting is the downfalls you will experience in the following years and whether you can pick yourself up and return to former glory depends on whether you have the IRON in you.
Now go define IRON in your own ways. Whatever they are, it’s definitely more than just these 4 ingredients which are true but not exhaustive.
p.s. I wish you success in building your agency. DM if you want me to coach you. I can’t guarantee success because it largely depends on you, but I do know the steps to get things started the right way.
