The Solo Recruiter Branding
You are a solo recruiter feeling helpless because you do not know how to brand against the agencies out there.
Today if you are a solo recruiter, there is advantage.
Unlike agencies which struggle with legacy systems and policies, you can redesign according to how you want your recruitment process to look like.
Yes, you call the shot. Every One Of Them.
That said, there is a branding tip I would like to share about being a solo recruiter.
Solo recruiters are basically solopreneurs in disguise.
The startup DNA is in your blood.
What better way than to work with startups, offering them your services via unique T&C (terms & conditions).
This is what I do.
I approach a startup and I “invest” in them.
Hi. You are probably bootstrapping and hiring budget is best kept to a minimal for now until you gain traction. I can’t do it for free but I know the key to successful startups lie in having the right people onboard especially at early phase. It is a time consuming process but the effort is well worth it. I can help you at a fixed cost of XXX. This is not possible with most recruiters because they charge 12-20% of the annual salary as a standard fee. So I have a condition. I like what your company does and I want to negotiate a deal that includes sweat equity. In return, I will support your hires for this fixed fee of XXX per position.
Interestingly, a few startups took this seriously because paying a fixed (lower) fee is significantly easier on their pockets than paying 16-25K for a new hire. In many cases, they are paying just 33% of what they need to pay to a standard agency.
When you are solo, you got to play your cards right and brand yourself “blue ocean style”.
Every startup needs a recruiter.
