If You Eat That Frog Known As Business Development, You Will Succeed

Johnny is great at closing recruitment deals.

In fact, his success rate is close to 70%, so that means out of 10 roles given, he is likely to close 7 of them.

If you are in recruitment, you know this is not an easy feat.

There is no shortcut from hard work.

Johnny hones his people skills and he is exceptional at conducting interviews to extract career relevance and highlights from his candidates.

He also listens and understands the needs of his clients.

The outcome is a lethal combo - he knows how to prepare candidates to ace the interviews, leading to offers again and again.

The team is often astonished by his performance.

Yet, Johnny also has his Achilles heel.

He doesn’t do business development on a consistent basis.

After every placement, Johnny would go into a slump for a while because he has to reignite his engine to start hunting for the next business.

That lapse causes him momentum loss and his confidence took hits several times in the course of the year.

If you are feeling the same, it is not surprising.

Many recruiters make the mistake of not having business development in their daily plan.

They allow things to happen naturally and unfortunately it doesn’t.

Business development has to be an intentional activity, so that it doesn’t become critical.

Every day, you should set aside the first productive hour for business development.

This includes sending out DM to targeted clients after researching them online. I use LinkedIn and it offers insights to which potential clients are hiring and the best approach for reaching out to them.

If you are not eating this frog for breakfast, you will be leaving money on the table and worst of all, it will cause your performance to yo-yo.

Don’t skip this frog.
