The Lunar New Year Reset
If you maintain momentum over January each year, you will have a stronger finish by the end.
But first of all, let me wish everyone a happy lunar new year where you embrace new challenges and celebrate your resiliency thus far.
Wishing you good fortune and health in the Dragon Year
The lunar new year comes around end of January or early February each year.
During the pre and post festive period, a lot of recruiters slow down to a crawl in anticipation of what their clients and candidates are “supposedly” going through.
It does make sense generally since most people would take a break but here’s the thing you miss.
Like the dive off in a swimming competition, by continuing to engage your clients and candidates (those who can), you create a momentum head start that will see you overpowering most of your competitors in the months ahead.
If anything, December and January are the worst time to slow down.
Granted, the festive seasons (Christmas and Lunar New year) are times to spend with our family, especially the extended families we are close to, since most are busy throughout the year.
The point is not to cut off everything and slow to a crawl because that is highly detrimental to your momentum.
These are two tips I would offer for keeping that momentum.
Send out season greetings, be it a e-card or if you prefer the traditional way, a physical card. This is something easy to do, doesn’t take up too much time and yet it has an important impact. Immediately, you rekindle dormant relationships and from there, you can talk business without appearing awkward.
Reach out to candidates and ask them a simple question “Are you looking out in this year?” or “Is there anything in your career you would want to change"?” From here, you broaden your network and also put yourself top of mind for these candidates.
Simple as they are, by taking action on these tips, you immediately break the slowdown and keep yourself poised and ready (mentally) for the business to come.
This has worked every year for me and many others who choose to keep the momentum going.
p.s. Thank you to everyone who DM and booked a coaching call with me in January. It was great to e-meet all of you. I still have slots for February if you want to get better sales for your recruitment business.
