Ok, let’s dive in for today. What’s Cooking?
Invest Wisely In Hiring The Best
My client told me they want someone “cheaper” because they have a budget.
Yet it is for a HOD (head of department) role.
As a recruiter, I see this played out quite often and it leads to a vicious cycle of hiring low hitters. It’s not their intent but it goes there.
Your key man/woman sets the tone. When you’re not investing in hiring the best for your HOD, the entire department suffers. It’s a chain reaction.
I decided to do the right thing.
I advised my client to review their current hires and eliminate or postpone the non-critical hires and then re-deploy that budget to hiring the best HOD they can get.
They finally did so with my help. We hired an amazing candidate and yes, he was not “cheap” but worth every dollar and cent.
A year in, we celebrated again with his promotion as regional HOD because of his excellent performance. Not only that, he was also resourceful to attract other talents from his network to join him in this new company. Talk about free hiring! He just beat me at my game 😂 (tears of joy and sorrow mixed together)
In total, he effectively saved the company over $100,000 through his own network and also massively contributed to the bottom line of the business.
I cried a little when no one’s looking, because if he hasn’t been that good, I could have helped the client place a few more positions. But he was good! I knew I did a good job and recently when I met my client at an event, she told me “You know John (fictitious name). He got promoted to regional HOD and he constantly brings up your name. In fact, he went as far as advising the company’s in-house talent recruiter to use your services and not hire everyone on their own.”
Wow, that’s really touching to hear and this is the type of client you want to network with because they also bring out the best in you.
